Haven’t been to the dentist in a long while? Are thinking of switching dental offices but aren’t sure what to expect? Feel trepidation at the thought of seeing a new dentist?
The prospect of going to the dentist is one that makes many feel a bit nervous at the best of times, and if it’s your initial visit then this feeling may be intensified. Rest assured though that you need not worry. The staff at North Burnaby Dental Group look forward to meeting you and will do everything they can to make your first visit as easy and beneficial as possible.
Wonder what to expect on your initial visit? The first item will be to fill out a New Patient Health History and Information form. These can be filled out upon your arrival in the office, or can be printed off and filled out in advance at home. The information in the form will help your dentist get an overview of your health, both dental and otherwise, and this history, combined with the results of your initial clinical examination, will help in the assessing of your immediate dental-care needs and the best possible treatment approach. As many health conditions and medications can have significant effects on your mouth and teeth, it is important that your dentist know a bit about you.
Next, a New Patient Exam is done. This involves a visual check of your gums and teeth, and may include X-rays. This is also your opportunity to communicate any concerns or fears you may have. By telling your dentist what you are comfortable or uncomfortable with you help to contribute to North Burnaby Dental Group’s goal: to provide you with the best possible experience that you can have in the dentist chair.
Once a review of your entire mouth is complete any possible work that may need to be performed — if any — will be determined, and a treatment plan and your options will be discussed with you. Ultimately it is your mouth involved, so we work with you to pick which treatments suit you best.
If time allows, a cleaning may be done at this time, including the removal of any plaque and as well as polishing of the teeth.
If follow-up treatment has been recommended, a follow-up appointment may be booked at this time.
At North Burnaby Dental Group we aim to have you leave our office feeling better than when you arrived, with a happy, healthy smile.
