While most people know to brush their teeth, not everyone really knows how to do it properly. An article on Crest.com and About.com, gives tips on how to brush your teeth.
After first applying a small amount of toothpaste on your wet toothbrush, follow these simple steps to achieve the maximum benefits from brushing your teeth:
- Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gums.
- Gently move the brush in short, circular motions for approximately 10 seconds, then roll the bristles away from your gums in a sweeping motion.
- Be sure to clean both the inner and outer surfaces of your teeth, as well as the chewing surfaces of your teeth, your gums, and insides of your cheeks.
- When finished brushing, rinse your mouth out with mouthwash to get rid of any lingering bacteria.
The American Dental Association recommends brushing teeth twice a day for about 2 minutes each time to help promote dental health.
According to the Crest.com article “most dental professionals recommend replacing your toothbrush every three months” or when you bristles start to look worn out. See your North Burnaby Dentist Group dentist for advice on what type of toothbrush and toothpaste is right for you.
